Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: Sharp, Good color and contrast, Small size compared to other f/2.8 zoom, Reasonably Priced

Weakness: Not wide enough on digital body, focus slowly, rotating focus ring

I have been using the lens for two weeks. I would say that this is the best price/performance F/2.8 zoom in the market I could find. It is very sharp from F4 to F8, very usable at 2.8. Color and contrast are very good. Also it focuses very closely. It is relatively small compared to other f/2.8 zoom in the market. Lens hood is also included. On digital body with 1.6x crop factor, it becomes...

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: Price, image sharpness, size, large constant aperture

Weakness: AF, image distortions

I performed quite a few tests to compare this lens with the following lenses that have some of the same or nearly comparable focal lengths: Canon 28-80mm f3.5-5.6 (poor quality Rebel kit lens) Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 (fairly good Digital Rebel kit lens) Canon 85mm f1.8 (excellent quality short telephoto) Tamron 19-35mm f3.5-4.5 (fair quality wide zoom) Obviously, I don't own, nor have I ever used...

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: Tack sharp, smooth mechanicals

Weakness: Poor low light autofocus

I have used this lens for 6 months now, and find it quite useful as my primary lens on the Canon Digital Rebel. It is clearly not as quiet as the Canon 17-40L lens, but at 1/3 the price, it was the most cost-effective solution. Quality control at the factory is said to be an issue, guess I lucked out.

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: very sharp images, constant f/2.8 at all ranges, good price, light weight, lens hood, 6-year warranty

Weakness: can't really think of any considering its price/performance ratio; may be not as sturdy as the Canon L lenses; wish it were 24mm instead of 28mm

I was looking for a better lens to replace my current Canon EF 28-105mm f3.5-4.5. There are not many choices for a f2.8 lens. One of which is the Canon 24-70 f2.8L, but that costs around $1200, and it is very heavy (~910g). This lens weighs much less (~500g), and is less than 1/3 the price of that of the Canon, yet produces images that can compete head-to-head with the L lens. What else can I...

Excellent Lens !!!

Strengths: Sharp image quality

Weakness: A bit bulky

I just got this lens couple days ago. Try it on my rebel XT. I can get really sharp image much sharper compare to my 18-55 kit lens. I like the lock function which prevent you to accidentally pull the zoom portion. This is very useful when store the lens attached with camera body face down into the bag. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this lens !!!

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: Very sharp wide open Great price Small and lightweight

Weakness: Hood feels cheap No full time manual focus Focus ring rotates while auto focusing

I bought this lens to replace my Tamron 24-135mm SP lens. This lens is a great improvement. The focusing is faster and quieter (still not Canon USM, though).

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: lightweight, constant and fast f2.8 aperture, tack sharp images, great colors/contrast, 1/3 price of Canon L glass

Weakness: inconsistent AF with Canon 10d, inability to adjust focus ring while on AF

AF with Canon 10d results in inconsistant results in indoor environments requiring flash. AF appears to focus on the same subject (ie. same red box is highlighted), but viewing both pictures side by side results in one very tack image, while the second appears to be somewhat soft. Outdoor results are amazing. Very sharp images with great colors. Besides the inconsistencies for indoor AF, this is...

TBohland

Strengths: F2.8 works great in low light high school gyms. Good Bookeh!

Weakness: I've had a few out of focus shots using AI servo but not many. For the price you can't beat it!

This lense rocks! I use it to shoot high school volleyball and basketball with my Canon Rebel XT. It's been a great investment for the money! I shoot Raw, Manual mode, ISO 1600, Shutter Speed 400, Aperature 2.8 - 3.2. Even in the really poorly light Gyms, I only have needed to push the exposure .5 - 1 stop during processing.

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: Price, sharp image, constant f 2.8 at all range

Weakness: not full time manual focus

I bought it for canon digital rebel. The images are much better than canon EFS 17-55mm. I'm thinging of selling 17-55mm now. Very happy with the purchase.

Tamron A09 AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical Zoom...

Strengths: sharpness like canon L-series lenses

Weakness: none

Reasonable price and high quality!! I dare to call it as a dream lens because it has no rival in third party standard zoom lenses.
